How to choose your wine estate in Occitania
The Occitanie region includes the vineyards of Languedoc, Roussillon and South-West which are among the 16 largest French vineyards and have a worldwide reputation.

The quality of Occitanie wines depends on many factors: the terroir, the exposure, the grape varieties, the work of the vines, the vinification and the climatic particularities of each year. Each wine estate makes its own choice of grape varieties according to the regulations of its Protected Designation of Origin but also according to the properties of the soil and its geographical location. Although 200 grape varieties are authorised in France, the main ones used in Occitania are Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Syrah for Languedoc-Roussillon and Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Négrette, Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng for the South West.
How much does a vineyard cost in Occitania?
Buying a vineyard in Occitania is an important investment but the price will vary greatly depending on the composition of the vineyard (vines, cellars, equipment, wine stock, etc.) and its location. The average price of a hectare of vines in Occitania hides very strong disparities.
The average price of PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) vines in 2020 and the evolution compared to 2019: €12,500 -1.7%.
The average price of non PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) vines in 2020 and the change compared to 2019: €14,500 0.9%.
It is also possible to invest by buying vines (to rent them to a winegrower), by becoming a partner in a wine company or by buying shares in Groupements Fonciers Viticoles.
