How to choose your wine estate in the Ariège
The department of Ariège is home to the South-West vineyards, which are among the 16 largest in France and have a worldwide reputation.
The climate of the Ariège and the soil are particularly favourable to the culture of the vine and the production of great wines.
The quality of Ariège wines depends on many factors: the soil, the exposure, the grape varieties, the work of the vines, the vinification and the climatic particularities of each year. Each wine estate makes its own choice of grape varieties according to the regulations of its Protected Designation of Origin but also according to the properties of the soil and its geographical location. Although 200 grape varieties are authorised in France, the main ones used in the Ariège are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Négrette, Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng for the South West.
How much does a vineyard cost in the Ariege?
Buying a vineyard in the Ariege is an important investment but the price will vary greatly depending on the composition of the vineyard (vines, cellars, equipment, wine stock, etc.) and its location. The average price of a hectare of vines in the Ariege hides very strong disparities.
