The territory of the Sologne foret

Sologne is located in the region of Centre-Val de Loire, in 3 of its departments: Loir-Et-Cher, Cher and Loiret. It covers 500,000 hectares and is bounded to the west by the Loir, to the south by the Cher and to the east by the Loire.
Crossed by 3 important rivers (the Sauldre, the Beuvron and the Cosson), Sologne is a territory covered with woods, moors, ponds and land without any agricultural vocation. Cultivated land does not exceed 25% of the total surface.
Historically, it is under the impulse of Napoleon III that the region was transformed into this well-known forest territory. Agricultural areas continue to decrease in favor of wooded and prestigious estates.
The Sologne is not a solely forested territory but is generally divided into four natural areas:

the Sologne of the Loiret, whose landscapes have been marked by the proximity of the Loire;

  • the "maraîchère" Sologne, which has retained an agricultural activity and contains large ponds;
  • the dry Sologne or Sologne du Cher, where dry moors are present;
  • the Sologne of the ponds, in the center, which includes more than 1 500 ponds and whose soils are more clayey;

The Sologne, ideal for the purchase of a forest property ?

The Sologne is mainly covered by forests, which are an important habitat for the fauna and flora that live there. The forest is also an important economic resource, as it provides wood for construction and furniture.
The forest of Sologne covers 3/4 of its surface and about 1/3 of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
There is a very diverse vegetation: oaks, pines, birches but also hornbeam, chestnut, hazelnut, ... adapted to dry or wetter areas.

A landscape with a variety of flora

Sologne counts the presence of many varieties of flowers, especially in the undergrowth. There are flowers such as species of primroses (cuckoo), periwinkles, hyacinths, etc. ... On the moors, many varieties of heather can be found. The presence of ponds and other basins leads to the establishment of many aquatic plants (algae, water lilies and water hyacinths in particular).
You will also be able to observe the drosera, a carnivorous plant which finds its place in the peat bogs.

A range of different ecosystemsplante carnivore

The Sologne is home to a wide variety of different ecosystems, making it an ideal habitat for many animal species. More than 4,000 species have been identified in the region! These include birds such as the black woodpecker and kingfisher, mammals such as deer and roe deer, reptiles such as the European adder and the common lizard, and amphibians such as the agile frog and the natterjack toad to name a few.
This abundance of animals makes it a very popular area for hunting. There are, among others, deer, roe deer, hinds, wild boars, weasels, martens, foxes, hares, ... The presence of many birds (220 species listed), especially migratory, is also to be highlighted. This makes Sologne a very rich area in terms of biology and ecology.
There are many hunting estates in Sologne. If some hunting properties are privately owned, there are also many estates offering hunting trips.
The many ponds and rivers in Sologne contain a multitude of fish and even the Lamproie de Planer, a small eel whose mouth acts as a sucker. Fishing is therefore a sport practiced in many private or commercial fishing estates.
